[Extended Period] SOWBOW/SOWBOW Pop-up

[Due to popular demand, the period has been extended until Sunday, March 3rd]

The plum blossoms are in full bloom, and spring is upon us.

A pop-up for SOWBOW , a brand that utilizes traditional crafts from the Kyushu region, will be held for three days from February 23rd (Friday, national holiday) to the 25th (Sunday).

COMFORTABLE CLOTHING

The brand's concept of " COMFORTABLE CLOTHING " is not simply comfortable everyday clothing, but expresses the feeling of " dressing casually " and places emphasis on the atmosphere and mood that is created between the wearer and the clothes.

The brand name, SOWBOW , incorporates the words meaning "people" or "folk," and was chosen with the hope that "it should not be for someone special, but something that is a part of people's everyday lives."

We proactively propose designs that are suited to Japanese culture, environment, and history, primarily utilizing traditional techniques from the Kyushu region (fabrics, dyeing, and sewing).

Kyushu's traditional crafts that support the brand

The traditional crafts of Kyushu are essential to SOWBOW 's manufacturing, the most representative of which are Kurume Kasuri and Arita ware.

Kurume kasuri, produced in and around Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, is a representative Japanese yarn-dyed fabric that was invented by a 13 -year-old girl in the late Edo period.

With its heavy texture, rustic feel of cotton, and beautiful ikat patterns, this material has been loved by ordinary people for use in clothing.

Highly regarded for its historical and artistic value, it was designated an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan in 1957 and a Traditional Craft Designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in 1976 .

Items using Kurume Kasuri always appear in SOWBOW collections, and the brand develops Kurume Kasuri using deadstock fabrics from the weavers, and sometimes completely unique fabrics.

Kurume Kasuri is produced in the Chikugo region in the southern part of Fukuoka Prefecture. The production of Kurume Kasuri requires more than 30 advanced techniques, including designing, binding the warp and weft threads, dyeing, and weaving.

Arita ware, produced in Arita town in Saga prefecture and the surrounding area, was called Imari ware or Hizen ware during the Edo period.

It is believed that when Toyotomi Hideyoshi invaded Korea, Korean potters who returned with him discovered porcelain stone, the raw material for porcelain, and porcelain production in Arita began.

It is characterized by its beautiful glass-like smooth texture and vivid color schemes painted on the transparent white porcelain.

Arita is known as the first place in Japan where porcelain was fired, and has been producing tableware and arts and crafts for over 400 years. In 1977 , it was designated as a traditional craft by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Arita ware has an image of being thin and delicate, but it is actually hard and durable, so the brand handcrafts its own buttons for use on its shirts.

Original ceramic buttons made in an Arita ware workshop. They are made by pouring clay into a mold, cutting it out into a mould and then drilling holes in each one with a drill.

They also produce high-quality items in collaboration with a dyeing studio in Miyakonojo City, Miyazaki Prefecture, who studied under an indigo master from Tokushima Prefecture, a nationally designated cultural asset, and a sewing factory in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture, that makes clothes for many prestigious brands.

This extraordinary commitment to manufacturing has been featured in TOKION , a magazine that disseminates cutting-edge Japanese culture, and GO OUT , an outdoor fashion magazine.

In addition, the brand's signature product, the Soman Shirt, was selected as part of " Tomorrow's Best Buy Market " in the commemorative project for the 1000th issue of the general pop culture magazine BRUTUS .

If you are interested, please check out that information as well.

The Soumang shirt embodies the brand concept. The distinctive one-piece collar with an open collar and a loose silhouette create a chic look reminiscent of a kimono.

From "traditional crafts" to "traditional industry"

The brand's focus is on everyday wear.

Rather than simply modernizing, we pursue designs that incorporate tradition and fit into everyday life, building close relationships with artisans while removing the hurdles associated with traditional craftsmanship.

Don't miss out on the items and activities of SOWBOW, which incorporates new ideas while providing items that can be used for a long time and spreads traditional Japanese culture.
