From Friday, December 20th to Monday, January 13th (national holiday) over the New Year period , we will be holding a sales and exhibition of Japanese folk toys, "Just the Right Fit Folk Toys," by torinoko , the design unit behind the recently well-received " YOT WATCH , wristwatches made from toys."

Introducing a new series that adds a playful touch to traditional local toys. We also have a wide selection of torinoko-style arrangements that are full of nostalgia and fun. Experience the fun of discovering new local toys that fit the era and your mood.

About the design trading company torinoko

The design unit " torinoko ", founded by designers "Yusuke Koyama" and "Hiroyuki Shiratori", is currently pursuing further possibilities as a "design trading company". In addition to working on product development and direction with companies, mainly focusing on product design, they also work as a bridge connecting local people, technology, and resources. They are also focusing on planning and selling their own original products and producing events.

Fun to play with local toys

Part 1: Dinosaur Paper Mache

"Goryu Hariko" is a piece where newness and nostalgia coexist. It is a work that combines 3D printer technology with traditional paper-mache techniques, and bamboo is used for the limbs and corners. It is a piece that has been carefully finished down to the smallest detail.

Part 2: Kyoto clay bells

A series of lucky charms that convey the charm of " Kyoto Kotoba " . With Kyoto culture, which has more than a thousand years of history, as a backdrop, these local toys with animal motifs are inspired by the meanings and stories contained in " Kyoto Kotoba " . Please enjoy the traditions and culture that are unique to Kyoto.

Part 3: The appeal of Chinese zodiac dolls and the Year of the Snake in 2025

2025 is the year of the snake. Since ancient times, snakes have been considered symbols of regeneration, prosperity of descendants, immortality, and financial luck due to their tendency to repeatedly shed their skin. Furthermore, as messengers of Benzaiten, one of the Seven Lucky Gods, they are considered lucky charms that bring wisdom and fortune. We have a wide selection of zodiac dolls related to the year of the snake.

No. 4: Good Job! Center

Also on display will be works by the Good Job! Center , which creates new jobs together with people with disabilities. The paper mache figurine is based on the Nara souvenir "vinyl balloon deer," and is assembled and finished by hand using 3D printer and laser cutter technology. It is a fascinating piece that combines Nara tradition with new technology.
