[Event] Watch brand OUTLINE pop-up

The noisy chirping of cicadas can be heard.

For nine days from Saturday, August 10th to Sunday, August 18th, OUTLINE , a brand that offers watches that pay homage to antique watches, will be holding a pop-up at Osaka's select shop struct, drawing on over 20 years of experience in watch magazines.

OUTLINE
This watch brand was founded by editor-in-chief Yoshimasa Kikuchi, who has been involved with watch magazines for over 20 years and has overseen collaborations with trading companies and custom-made models for ANA (All Nippon Airways). While treasuring the atmosphere of the golden age of mechanical wristwatches from the 1940s to 1960s, the brand offers antique-style watches suitable for everyday use. They offer small lots of watches that are fashionably attractive without feeling cheap.

Yoshimasa Kikuchi
He has launched a number of watch magazines, including the watch magazine Power Watch, Low Beat, and Time Gear. As publisher and editor-in-chief, he publishes more than 20 issues a year. He also launched the industry's first crowdfunding site for watches, WATCH Makers, and launched his own watch brand, OUTLINE, and is involved in a wide range of watch-related businesses. Since 2019, he has been serializing "Yoshimasa Kikuchi's Rolex News" on Yahoo! News every Sunday.

When purchasing a watch, everyone has probably read a watch magazine at least once (including me, of course). OUTLINE is a watch brand launched by Yoshimasa Kikuchi, the editor-in-chief of many of these magazines. Although it is a relatively new brand established in 2018, its attention to detail in its design and finishing gives it a unique presence not found in other brands.

In particular, the homage to the heyday of mechanical watches from the 1940s to 1960s, which he particularly loves, is an expression unique to this brand. Antique watches from this era are attractive in shape and design, but they are just as difficult to maintain as old cars (although enjoying the hard work is one of their charms), so people tend to hesitate to own them casually. In that respect, this brand also has elements that allow you to casually enjoy antique watches from that time. Naturally, the high level of reproduction also means that they are "purely cool". This season, we will start handling this notable watch brand. And at the same time, the brand will hold its first pop-up in Osaka. This is a great opportunity to see the lineup of this brand, which is usually difficult to see.

The motif is a masterpiece watch for exploration
"369 Special" ¥60,500

Born from the continuous exchange of information with explorers, the dial features the numbers 3, 6, and 9, which are the motif of the masterpiece watch that is synonymous with the name. It features a design that reproduces the honeycomb dial of the early 1950s and emphasizes the antique feel.

The honeycomb black dial follows the basic design, while the honeycomb white dial uses three-dimensional gold indexes to further emphasize the vintage feel. There is also a glossy black dial that is not honeycomb, and the lineup also includes a standard model with a modern feel.

The movement is the Miyota 9000 series caliber 9039, which is under the Citizen umbrella, and is highly efficient yet slim.

It reproduces the rare guilloche decoration from the 1950s, providing a unique texture and three-dimensional effect.

The big 8mm crown enhances operability and gives the watch an antique feel.

A plastic windshield is used to faithfully reproduce the vintage feel.

It uses Miyota's thin movement and has a slim case design.

The serial number is engraved large on the back of the watch, creating a classic impression.

A faithful reproduction of Rolex's rivet bracelet from the 1950s.

The glasses case type storage case is designed for ease of portability.

Each watch is carefully assembled by a skilled Japanese watchmaker.

The small 36mm case is suitable for both business and casual occasions.

Reproduced British and German military watches
"Military Type 1940" ¥47,300

This watch is a reproduction of the 1940s British "Dirty Dozen" and the German Air Force "B Watch." To ensure the fidelity of the design, it uses a Seagull hand-wound movement with small seconds (independent second hand).

The British Army's "Dirty Dozen" watches of the time were manufactured by 12 Swiss watchmakers, including Omega, IWC, Longines, and Jaeger-LeCoultre, and feature the same design based on military standards. The small second hand is placed at the 6 o'clock position, faithfully recreating the atmosphere of the time. Meanwhile, the German Air Force's "B Watch" was designed with an emphasis on visibility down to the second, with a smoky green dial as a modern accent.

The movement of Seagull realizes a small second close to the design of the 1940s, and the crown is also located at 3 o'clock, just like back then. This is a rare arrangement in Japan, and it enhances the perfection of the design.

The real Dirty Dozen from that time. From top right to left: Buren, Lemania, Timor, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Cima, Omega, and Vertex.

The B watch of that time. The large seconds display allows for accurate timekeeping at night. Left: A. Lange & Söhne Right: Laco It is the only Swiss manufacturer to be produced by IWC.

The classic design is not too flashy and matches a wide range of occasions, from casual to business. It is also very comfortable to wear and goes well with the slender wrists of Japanese people.

Comes standard with NASA's legendary mesh bracelet
"2 Register Chrono Series II" ¥66,000

This model is equipped with Seiko's Mecha-Quartz VK64 and comes standard with a reproduction of the legendary mesh bracelet, Forstner's Comfit.

With a retro feel of the 1960s in mind, the small dials on the dial feature a two-eye style. The tachymeter scale and numbers on the bezel (the ring around it) are in an old-fashioned font, and the hour and minute hands are in a classic alpha shape (diamond shape), creating a bold, mature look.

The movement, bezel diameter, and case size have been adjusted to achieve a compact size and comfortable fit that was popular in the 1960s. A gray NATO strap is included, allowing you to wear it according to the occasion or fashion.

Seiko's mechanical quartz VK64 has a chronograph (stopwatch function) with a sweeping needle movement, and after stopping the measurement, the reset button can be used to instantly reset to zero. This smooth needle movement is an appeal not found in other mechanical quartz watches.

Forstner's Comfit bracelet is a mesh bracelet that can be adjusted in length and was developed in 1939 by Forstner, a company founded in the United States in the 1920s. It is widely known for being used by NASA astronauts and was actually used in the space program in the 1960s. Today, Forstner has been re-established and a reproduction of the Comfit is on sale. This bracelet has a simple structure and can be adjusted to fit any wrist size.

NASA's archives from the 1960s contain many photos of astronauts and ground staff wearing Comfits. From the antique watch magazine "LowBEAT" (published by C's Factory).

It comes with a grey NATO strap, giving it a military watch-like feel.

The chic monochrome color scheme and mesh bracelet give it a classic feel that is suitable for business settings.
